#thevalueofgarbage : between symbolic value and materiality | design project by Andreas Angelidakis
“Even nowadays, as Greece is navigating its’ second major financial crisis, one can sense that the country is a collage between the glorious and somewhat virtual ancient past, and the live real present…As a result of these notes on aesthetics and history, we devised the space of Feeder, at the Breeder project space, as a combination of two spaces. One space is inhabited by a pristine white lacquer system of modular seating and dining units, the other by mismatched, used chairs and tables found in the area of Metaxourgeio. The two spaces are collaged together, as a continuously evolving ruin where chairs become benches, tables extend to become columns, new seats are born from old, and richly woven traditional kilims are laid on glossy white surfaces, in an architecture that continually copy-pastes between the virtual ancient past and the real folklore present.” (Feeder, at the Breeder project space) via andreasangelidakis.blogspot.com

Waste design strategies

Waste Design Strategies | By Antonas.Office

We can think about designing “with waste” through some general strategies that describe the eventual construction of shape through matter that is not wanted any more for the purpose it was meant to exist. Design out of waste thus means either reinventing ways of re-appropriating objects or using a mass of unused objects in order to create a particular unified but multiple mass that we could call a mixed “material”. These two different strategies produce two different types of productivity through waste.

Varoulko: Is the name of a folding chair created from objects found during a visit to a waste management facility in Chania. The folding mechanism was created using a chandelier, a metallic frame and an alumium grid. This is part of a design work that was produced during #kamworkshops2011, by the team of Lilia Mitsiou, Dimitra Tsiami, and Evi Xexaki.
